Official opening of Nødnett, first project part

Ministers opening NødnettTuesday August 17th, the radio network in Norway for emergency services, Nødnett, opened officially. First project part covers six police districts in the central eastern part of Norway.

Nødnett has its first users!

etatNødnett is now opened up for its first users. This reflects that the network status is in good shape for the first project phase and the geographical regions in question. Initial users belong to the police forces in the districts Østfold and Follo and they now use Nødnett as their primary radio network. Feedback from these users are very positive and the expectations of a network with improved quality have so far been met.

Increased cost scope for the project

The Norwegian parliament, Stortinget, has in June 2009 accepted to give the government authorisation to increase the cost scope for the first stage of development for the new Norwegian public safety radio network with up to 110 million Norwegian kroner. The decision is accordance with proposal from the transport- and communication committee and proposal from the government.

TETRA - the best technology for Nødnett

TETRA is still in 2008 the best technology for a nationwide public safety radio network in Norway, the consultancy firm Gartner has concluded in an independent report. According to Garter it's not any realistic alternatives to TETRA to day. Gartner emphasises that the public safety agencies not should make them selves dependent of commercial mobile networks for critical communication. The report is a part of the evaluation of the first stage of development of the new public safety radio network in Norway. Read the report here.

Fire's first transition kicks off

A kick-off meeting was held on Tuesday, August 19 at Alarmsentral Brann Øst's (ABØ) call centre in Moss.Installation of equipment has begun at Fire's operational organisation, BDO, located at ABØ in Moss.
